A Winged Victory For The Sullen is the collaboration between Stars Of The Lid founder, Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie, and composer, Dustin O’Halloran. Since 2007 the duo has created and recorded neoclassical masterpieces, which they will introduce to Frost’s audience in Koncertkirken at Blågårds Plads.
With their 2013-album, ‘Atomos’, the band has been accelerating their career rapidly and now plays sold-out show in London and in the rest of Europe.
When the duo met the in 2007 they agreed to leave the well known comfort zone of their home studios and develop the recordings with the help of large acoustic spaces, including the famed Grunewald Church in Berlin and the historic East Berlin DDR radio studios along the River Spree. Ever since the duo has been frontrunners for a new and grand sound combining classic music with contemporary pop just as their label mate Nils Frahm.
The music and culture blog, The Quietus, wrote in a concert review : ”A Winged Victory For The Sullen – like Loren Connors or Rothko – is not making music ‘of the Earth’, or indeed anything external. It is the physical manifestation of that inner space, and with it, they quietly continue to make some of the most inventive and powerfully luminescent sounds being played today.”
